Winter Scorn Leads to School Spirit

This year’s Northern State University’s annual ‘I Hate Winter’ weekend took place in the Barnett Center on Friday, February 13, and Saturday, February 14. Every year, students are encouraged to trade in their long-johns and winter coats for shorts and swimsuits in honor of this celebratory event.
The highlight of the weekend was the NSU women’s and men’s basketball games, which tipped off at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Friday, and 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Saturday, respectively.
Activities began with the I Hate Winter student meal on Friday at 5:30 p.m., which was held for the first time in the Barnett Center auxiliary gym so that students would not miss any of the action happening below.
At the same time, the NSU Fitness Center hosted an open house that included door prizes and gift certificates to businesses around Aberdeen. In Wachs Arena below, the hot tubs that are set up annually at this event were located courtside and enjoyed by students on both Friday and Saturday night during the basketball games.
