Northern State’s Anna Bondy (Soccer) and Kyle Lavand (Football) have been named the Qdoba Scholar Athletes of the Week for their academic and athletic efforts. Each week, Qdoba Mexican Grill honors two athletes for their efforts on the field of play. Nominees must hold a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher to qualify.
Bondy added some much needed goals for the Wolves Sunday at UMD. The junior from Pierre, SD, scored three times versus the Bulldogs. The Wolves went 1-0-1 this past weekend after a 0-0 tie on Saturday at St. Cloud State.
Lavand threw for 365 yards and two touchdowns in the September 19 loss on the road to Wayne State. In the 34-27 defeat, the freshman from Crystal Lake, IL, threw a two yard touchdown pass to Taylor Houchin (Jr.) to tie the game at 20 in the fourth quarter. Then inside three minutes left in the game, Lavand found Cody Kraft (Jr.) for a 56-yard strike to tie the game again at 27 in the fourth.
