Bondy Hat Trick Leads Wolves to Victory with Tietz Named NSIC Goalkeeper of the Week


   The Northern State women’s soccer team defeated the University of Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs 3-1 in a September 20 match up. After the team notched a tie September 19 against St. Cloud State, they ended the weekend 1-0-1 on the road. The Wolves improve to 3-2-1 overall this season.
   Sparking the Wolves’ offense was junior midfielder, Anny Bondy. The first of Bondy’s three goals came early in the sixth minute of play, off the Allison Byrd (So.) assist. Kay Hernandez (Jr.) and Allie Macdonald (Sr.) also tallied assists in the next two goals to complete the Bondy hat trick. Byrd and Macdonald added two shots on goals apiece in their 90-minutes of play.

   Down 3-0 in the second period, Duluth forward Logan Nash answered back, but it was not enough for the Bulldogs. Senior goalkeeper, Brittany Tietz added 11 saves for the Wolves’ defense. Tietz was named Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Goalkeeper of the Week, with a recorded 21 saves and holding opponents to one goal in the games against UMD and St. Cloud State.
   NSU soccer continues on the road this weekend in Nebraska against Wayne State on Saturday, September 26, and in Sioux Falls against Augustana University on Sunday. Both games are scheduled for 1p.m.
