Food, games, and prizes – the Beulah Williams Library kicked off its second annual Library Carnival on Tuesday, September 15. Guessing games and carnival snacks such as popcorn, cotton candy, and lemonade were available at the entrance with carnival games to follow on the second floor for everyone to enjoy. Students and other community members had an array of different activities to keep busy while learning more about the library. Carnival goers started the night off with a bean bag toss, miniature golf, ping pong, and bowling – all of which were set up using books in various ways. Tickets were awarded to those who won games, and those tickets could be cashed in for a variety of prizes. Thunder, Northern’s famous mascot, even made an appearance, participating in the games and partaking in the fun of the photo booth with students.
The Library Carnival has been a fun alternative to the previous library orientations. “This is the second year of the Library Carnival,” said Kristin Echtenkamp, a Reference and Instruction Librarian at Beulah Williams Library. “Previously, we held orientations to get people to come visit the library and learn about how it works.” At the Library Carnival, students and other community members get to learn more about the library and all it has to offer, but they also get to enjoy some free-time and games with colleagues and close friends.
