On the afternoon of October 24, small groups of runners ran for their lives through downtown Aberdeen. Armed with a flag-belt representing their last shreds of humanity, citizens attempted to out-run and dodge zombies hoping to reach the end of the course with their belt still intact.
In the end, humanity took a dive with no runners crossing the finish with their belts in tact, but that didn’t stop the runners and the zombies from celebrating afterwards. This year marked Hub City Events’ first annual Zombie Run and Pub Crawl, which brought about 100 participants out for the event, evenly split between runners (humans) and chasers (zombies).
The course started and ended at Central Park, with stations for people to get the full zombie make-over with make-up artists on hand and old torn clothing for the zombies to wear. Once the chasers were all zombied up, they were stationed throughout the course, and then runners were sent out in groups of 10 to try and make their way throughout the course. Most runners lost their “humanity” early on, but as they kept running they passed by locations like the Red Rooster Coffee House and found old wooden signs directing them on their path. Once the run was complete, participants made their way back downtown to enjoy zombie-themed drinks with their fellow runners and zombies. After the success of this year’s event, Hub City Events has begun planning next year’s Zombie Run and Pub Crawl.
