On October 7, the Northern State University cross country teams traveled to St. Cloud for the Bob Waxlax Invite, the final meet of the regular season before the NSIC Championships. The women finished in fourth as a team with an average time of 23:50. The men also finished in fourth as a team, marking an average time of 27:27 in the 8k.
The NSU women were down their top two runners as Sasha Hovind ran unattached and Dakotah Bullen rested up before the championship meet. The NSU men saw team improvement as they surpassed Southwest Minnesota State who had previously bested them in St. Paul.
Leading the way for the NSU women was sophomore Paige Larson in seventh overall. Larson finished in 22:57.0, just over a minute off the leader. Lindsey Gast also found herself in the top ten, taking eighth place with a time of 23:01.9. Madison Leapaldt finished in 23:46.5, while Courtney Espeland and Hanna Wahl notched times of 24:34.9 and 24:49.1.
Clay Danielson was the top finisher for the NSU men in 13th overall with a time of 27:06.3, followed by Tanner Peltier in 14th hitting the line 27:12.2. Adam Leach and Thomas Horgeshimer were the final Wolves in the top-20 in 16th with a time of 27:24.5 and 18th with a time of 27:30.6. Jackson Goodell finished in 28:00.4, while Logan Swenson and Zac Bartolomeo finished with times of 28:35.2 and 29:01.3. Jacob Schweitzer and Asher Wahl were the final finishers for the Wolves cross the line at 30:21.5 and 30:24.2.
The Wolves will return to action Saturday, October 22, from the Yankton Trials in the NSIC Championships. The women will race at 11a.m. with the men to follow at noon.
