Faculty Spotlight: Dr. Darci Bultema

   Dr. Darci Bultema, Associate Professor of Music, has been with the NSU vocal department for 10 years, teaching applied voice and opera. She graduated from North Dakota State University with a Bachelor of Science in Music Education. She went on to receive a Master of Music in Vocal Performance degree from the Peabody Conservatory of Music in Baltimore, Maryland.
   Dr. Bultema also earned the prestigious Graduate Performance Diploma in Voice and Opera at the Peabody Conservatory. After which she returned to North Dakota State University for her Doctorate of Musical Arts degree.
   Dr. Bultema, soprano, has had several professional operatic experiences but among her most memorable was the time that she spent with the Florida Grand Opera. While there, she sang with many world-renowned singers such as Debora Voigt, Elizabeth Futral, and James Morns. She has also performed at the International Grieg Festival held in Bergen, Norway. She was one of only eleven singers chosen from around the world to perform.

   As for her involvement with campus activities at NSU, she is currently serving as the producer for this Fall’s opera, Gianni Schicci.
   Dr. Bultema is also involved as faculty advisor of the new campus club,  L’Opera Lupo, which translates to Opera Wolves. As the name suggests, this is a club dedicated to the art of opera.
   Dr. Bultema’s students have surely benefitted from her vocal expertise and tutelage. Several of her students have gone on to pursue graduate programs in vocal performance and education at prestigious music institutions throughout the United States.
