Voting over the proposed general activity fee closed October 28. With a result of 195 to 74, the student body voted in favor of the proposal. Should our proposal be accepted by the Board of Regents at the meeting in December, the increase will go into effect May of 2017.
As of now, the GAF is $30.10 per credit hour. The proposal would increase the GAF to $36.10 per credit hour. For the past few weeks, Student Association has held numerous information sessions in the Student Center, socials in many of the dorms, and has even been tabling during lunch hours every Wednesday since the beginning of the semester. There have been posters on campus advertising these sessions as well.
We are excited to move forward with this and can’t wait to see great improvements on campus made possible by this increase.
As of right now we have a number of seats available on Student Association. If you have big ideas for Northern or have thoughts on changes you would like to see take place campus, consider applying for one of our open seats.
The seats we currently have available are the following: School of Business, College of Arts and Sciences, and Graduate School. If you are a student in the listed schools and have an interest in making a difference on campus and in the lives of your fellow students, stop by one of our meetings and apply!
We are here to serve you, the students, and, if we aren’t properly serving the students, then we are not doing our job. So come join us and don’t be afraid to give us your input.
The Student Association would like you opinions on how we can make campus feel more like home. Are there certain events you want on campus, or are there any amenities we should be looking into providing for students? Let us know!
We are seeking ways to enhance the atmosphere of campus. We are currently in talks to get more student artwork placed around campus. This will allow us to showcase the ability of our students, while also making campus beautiful.
We are your voice in the world of higher education. Not only do your senators represent you in Student Association, but every senator also serves on a number of campus-wide committees that affect all areas of campus life.
That being said, we would greatly appreciate your input at our meetings. Our meetings are open to the public and are held every Tuesday at 9pm in the Centennial Rooms of the Student Center. It’s your opportunity to be heard, so take advantage of it and stop by!
