Wolves Notch Two Victories from Midwest Duals

   NSU wrestling went 2-2 from the Nebraska Kearney Midwest Duals. NSU tallied wins over San Francisco State (24-21) and New Mexico Highlands (27-18) and fell to CSU Pueblo (26-14) and Colorado Mesa (34-12). Northern is now 4-5 overall in duals this season.
   The Wolves tallied 16 individual match victories and welcomed back senior C.J. Voegeli to the mat at 141 pounds. Tyler Stenberg was the only Wolf to go a perfect 4-0 in wrestled matches.
San Francisco State Dual
   Voegeli notched his first victory of the season to open scoring for the Wolves in the first dual of the day. He defeated Josh Villaflor by fall at 6:05 in the match. Stenberg and Blake Perryman kept the wins rolling for the Wolves at 149 and 157 pounds. Stenberg defeated Josh Weinberg in a 17-2 technical fall and Perryman defeated Trevor Perez in a 12-1 major decision.
   David Murphy and Joe Gomez notched the team’s final victories in the dual to secure the 24-21 victory. Murphy defeated Mitchell Owens by fall at 1:36 in the match to take the 184 pound win. Gomez tallied what later was the decisive three points for the Wolves defeating Johnny Costa in a 3-1 decision.
CSU Pueblo Dual
   Northern dropped their second dual of the day in a close 26-14 match. Stenberg notched the first win for the Wolves defeating Clay Archer in a 20-17 decision.
   Perryman notched back-to-back wins for NSU, taking down Kyle Fichter in a 13-1 major decision. Murphy and Gomez tallied the final wins for Northern but it was not enough to overcome the point spread. Murphy defeated Steven Ullman in an 18-10 major decision, while Gomez defeated Cody Johnson in a 7-5 decision.
Colorado Mesa Dual
   Stenberg and Harrison Townsend tallied the team’s two victories versus Mesa at 149 and 285 pounds. Stenberg defeated Nick Swanson in an 11-5 decision, while Townsend defeated Clayton Voytilla in a 5-2 decision. Gomez tallied the team’s final points in a forfeit victory.
New Mexico Highlands Dual
   Voegeli bounced back for a match win as the Wolves defeated New Mexico Highlands to conclude the day. The senior defeated Dakota Hope in a 2-0 decision. Stenberg kept the wins rolling with his second technical fall of the day. The senior defeated Orlando Guerra with a score of 18-3. Perryman tallied the third straight victory for NSU, defeating Reis Humphrey in a 12-3 major decision.
   Gomez tallied the final win for the Wolves at 197 pounds, defeating Christopher Collins in a 4-1 decision. Ben Fichter and Townsend also tallied team points with two forfeit victories.
