Wolves Host I Hate Winter Weekend Versus Peacocks and Warriors

Women’s Basketball
   Northern State University women’s basketball enters the annual I Hate Winter weekend on a 4-game win streak in league action. NSU is currently ranked second in the NSIC North and fourth in the conference overall with a 9-5 record.
   The Wolves are shooting 45.3% from the floor, 33.5% from the arc, and 71.4%, while averaging 68.8 points, 38.3 rebounds, 15.8 assists, 14.0 turnovers, 6.5 steals, and 3.9 blocks per game.
   Northern leads the NSIC in rebounding margin collecting on averaging 7.5 more boards than their opponents. Jill Conrad is second in the NSIC in free-throw percentage knocking down 46-of-50.
   The Wolves have seen a few shifts in the starting line-up since the holiday break, however have found some stability in the current five.
   NSU women’s basketball will face Upper Iowa at 6 p.m. on Friday and continue action into Saturday against number 20 Winona State at 4 p.m.

Last Match-Up with the Upper Iowa Peacocks

  • The Wolves defeated the Peacocks 42-38 on the road in 2015-16.
  • Jill Conrad led the team with 19 points and was the only scorer in double figures on both sides in the game.
  • Northern out-rebounded Upper Iowa 40-35, including 17 offensive boards which resulted in 15 points.

Last Match-Up with the Winona State Warriors

  • The Wolves defeated the No. 9 Warriors 60-55 on the road a season ago.
  • Alexis Tappe and Miranda Ristau led the team with 11 and ten points each in the win.
  • NSU out-shot (41.8-34.5) and out-rebounded (44-30) WSU in the game.
  • Northern is 48-10 all-time versus Winona State.

Men’s Basketball
   Northern State men’s basketball also returns to Wachs Arena this weekend. The Wolves will face Upper Iowa on Friday and Winona State on Saturday with game times at 8 and 6 p.m. respectively.
   The Wolves enter the weekend sitting second in the NSIC North and fourth in the league overall.  The Wolves are shooting 49.7% from the floor, 42.2% from the arc, and 74.3% from the foul line, while averaging 85.9 points, 37.6 rebounds, 13.2 assists, 13.0 turnovers, 4.0 steals, and 3.7 blocks per game. The NSU men are leading the league in 3-point field goal percentage, shooting 42.9% against NSIC opponents. Northern also sits atop the league, averaging 4.1 blocks per game with 65 total.
   Senior Mack Arvidson and junior DJ Pollard are both nearing 1,000 points in their careers with Arvidson tallying 914 and Pollard notching 932. Arvidson is leading the team in points (366), points per game (16.6), and 3-point field goals made. He also ranks sixth in the nation with 78 made 3-pointers.
   Logan Doyle has been solid for the Wolves under the basket, notching a team leading 197 rebounds, averaging 9.0 per game. He is also shooting a team leading 61.3% from the floor.

  • The Wolves fell to the Peacocks 89-81 on the road.
  • Upper Iowa out-shot the Wolves in the win and tallied 22 points off 14 turnovers in the game.
  • Darin Peterka and DJ Pollard led the team with 18 and 16 points respectively.
  • Northern is 15-3 all-time against the Peacocks.

Last Match-Up with the Winona State Warriors

  • The Wolves defeated the Warriors 68-64 on the road a season ago.
  • Four Wolves scored in double figures in the win, including Bo Fries with ten points.
  • NSU notched ten made 3-pointers and out-scored the Warriors 44-27 in the second half.
  • Northern is 41-38 all-time versus Winona State.
