Three Northern State University Wolves wrestlers were named to the NSIC All-Conference teams for 2016-17 for their performances at the regional and national tournaments.
The highest place-winner at the NCAA Regional Tournament from each weight class shall be named all-conference first team. The next highest NSIC finisher will be named all-conference second team.
Tyler Stenberg was the lone Wolf named to the NSIC first team, while both Joe Gomez and Sean Havlovic were named to the NSIC second team.
Any NCAA Division II National Champion will earn NSIC All-Conference First Team honors, and any wrestler that earns NCAA All-American honors will also be recognized as second team all-conference.
Stenberg was named to the NSIC first team after winning the 149 pound crown at the NCAA Super Region Three Tournament. The senior moved to the NCAA National Championships where he finished his NSU wrestling career with a 27-7 record in 2016-17.
Havlovic was named to the NSIC second team as the second highest finisher from the NCAA Championships at 165 pounds. Despite an injury in early January, the senior battled back to reach the final competition of the season and wrestle to a 21-10 record in his final season with NSU wrestlng.
Gomez capped off his Northern State wrestling career with his third All-American honor, finishing seventh at 197 pounds. The senior was the second-best finisher for the league at the Championships and earned All-American status, giving him a spot on the NSIC second team. Gomez finished with a 27-8 record in 2016-17 and a 107 win career for the Wolves.
