Northern’s track and field teams opened the 2017 outdoor season from the University of Colorado Jerry Quiller Invite. The Wolves notched 25 top-15 finishes on the women’s side, and another 43 on the men’s with one school record by Itoitz Rodriguez in the 400m dash.
Toni-Ann Ingram opened the women’s track events for the Wolves finishing fourth in the 100m dash with a time of 12.79. Ingram was the top Division II finisher in the event. She went on to take seventh in the 200m with a time of 25.99. Madison Leapaldt notched the lone top-10 distance finish of the day in the 3000m run, hitting the line at 11:53.53 in tenth overall.
The 4x100m relay team of Elizabeth Raecke, Madison Barnes, Tayla Peterson, and Ingram finished second overall with a time of 48.81, while the 4x400m relay team won the event. Barnes, Raecke, Mackenzie Cruzen, and Molly Wynn crossed the line at 4:15.39 as the top finishers.
Nicolette Kneeland led the Wolves in the shotput, finishing third overall with an 11.68m toss on her third attempt. McKenzie Werner notched a top-5 finish in the discus with a throw of 33.24m. Amy Wockenfuss opened her track and field season finishing third in the hammer, throwing 44.55m. The Wolves went three-four in the javelin led by senior Trevez Bridgewater who threw 35.82m, followed by Michaela Schlecht in fourth with a 35.45m throw.
In men’s competition, Itoitz Rodriguez opened his outdoor season finishing third in the 400m dash as the top Division II placer. Rodriguez hit the line with a school record time of 47.94, finishing just 0.79 behind the race winner.
After his indoor All-American performance, Deshonn Brown won the high jump clearing 2.09m, the only competitor to jump over 2.03m on the day. He also finished fourth in the long jump with a 6.54m jump. Trey Tiefenthaler finished second in the triple jump as the top Division II placer, jumping 13.17m.
Lucas Osowski took second in the shotput with a 14.21m toss. Osowski also finished third in the hammer throw, with a 47.56m mark on his fourth throw of the afternoon. Brown moved to the throwing events, finishing second in the javelin throwing 46.97m.
